WORRIES
OVER SIZE OF BALLROOM |
The
Fairies' Winter Ball was held as usual at Mr Gnome's Guest House.
The number of guests has increased over the past few years
so that the big ballroom under the hollow tree is now hardly enough
for the dancing, and it has been suggested that future balls may
have to be held in more roomy premises. Another suggestion is
that the ball might be held over two days. However, Martha
B. Rabbit, who cooks the party supper has objected that since
she has only Mr. Gnome and Tabitha Cat to help her, it would then
be necessary to employ more helpers.
The Fairies Winter Ball was a great success as always;
Fairy Melinda won the prize for the most Graceful Dancing; Fairy
Gilda was awarded a Certificate of Merit for Personal Sparkle,
and Fairy Violet took home the Trophy for the most Elegant Table
Manners. Many other small prizes were bestowed upon fairies
and elves during the evening for Good Behaviour, Kindness and
other such qualities and it was generally agreed that Martha B.
Rabbit had surpassed herself in the magnificent supper she provided.
Your reporter, who very much enjoyed the evening, can assure
her readers that whether the ball continues to be held at Mr.
Gnomes Guest House or elsewhere, it will certainly be an evening
to be long remembered. |

MORE RAT TROUBLE
IN FOREST |
Those
well known criminals, Blackie, Brownie and Spotto got more that
they bargained for when they broke into Mr. Fergus Frog's tricycle
store on Wednesday night. Having forced the back door, they
proceeded to remove three high powered bright yellow Dandelion
Specials but were spotted by Mrs Marigold after returning from
her evening cookery class. She informed P.C Tom who took
a short cut and was waiting for the luckless trio when they pedalled
into their rat-hole yard. "When will you three learn
that crime never pays?" sighed Judge Stripey Fourpaws and
sentenced them to seven days in the Oak Tree lock up.

QUILTING
GROUP OFF TO A GOOD START |
Martha B. Rabbit aided by Tabitha
Cat, conducted the Apple Tree Quilters Group on Monday evening
from 6:30 till 8:30, with a light supper round the fire afterwards.
There are now eight quilters working on various projects:
tiny quilts for new baby animals, larger ones for the elderly
who find it hard to keep warm at night in their burrows as winter
becomes colder, and two very beautiful Heritage Quilts designed
to be heirlooms.
"These are very special projects" Martha
told your reporter. "Different important times in the lives
of the quilters are remembered: one square has a traditional ring
pattern which signifies the marriage; another square records the
birth of the babies - in Mrs Rabbits case, 87 small stars, one
for each baby rabbit." The quilts will be on public
display next winter at the Apple Tree Gallery.
